What December feels like
December is two months wearing one name. Until around the 20th it's classic quiet wet season: green, stormy-warm, well-priced and empty. Then Christmas–New Year detonates — Bali's single busiest fortnight, with villas commanding peak-plus rates and minimum-stay requirements, fireworks over the beaches and the island at maximum festivity.
What's on
Early December is a value play with festive decorations going up. For the holidays themselves: book the villa months ahead, reserve Christmas and NYE dinners early, and expect road traffic near the hotspots. The quiet coast plays its trump card here — Seseh's New Year's Eve is beach bonfires and distant fireworks rather than gridlock.
Surf in December
Wet-season surf rules: dawn sessions on the west coast before the wind, east coast for the dedicated. The water is at its warmest; the line-ups at their most local.
The verdict
Come in early December for the year's sneakiest value, or at Christmas–New Year for peak festivity booked well ahead. Skip the holiday fortnight if crowds and premiums aren't your idea of one.
