Weather, crowds, prices, surf and what's on — an honest look at February in Bali, from the quiet southwest coast.

Monthly Guide · Updated July 2026 · by Casa Living Bali

Every month in Bali is somebody's favourite. Here's what February actually delivers — the weather numbers, the crowd reality, what it costs and what's on — so you can decide if it's yours.

The numbers for February

At a glance: rainfall ~300mm over roughly 17–20 rain-days · air 26–31°C · humidity high · sea 28–29°C · crowds: lowest of the year · pricing: rock-bottom outside chinese new year.

What February feels like

February is Bali's quietest month — the sweet spot for travellers allergic to crowds. The wet season continues but often softens slightly from January; storms still roll through in the afternoons, and in between the island is lush, slow and half price. This is the month photographers and returning long-stayers quietly book: the light after rain is the best of the year.

What's on

Valentine's dinners aside, watch for Galungan and Kuningan in some years (the 210-day Balinese calendar means dates rotate) — penjor bamboo poles arch over every lane and village life turns ceremonial for ten days. If your stay catches it, you've won the cultural lottery. Chinese New Year can fall in February and briefly fills villas with regional weekenders.

Surf in February

East coast remains the wet-season call for experienced surfers; Seseh and Munggu reward dawn patrols before the onshores. Water stays bath-warm, line-ups stay empty.

The verdict

Come in February for the best value-to-experience ratio on the calendar and near-private beaches. Skip it if your dates are immovable and rain would ruin them.

Frequently asked questions

Is February a good month for Bali?
It's the quietest and one of the cheapest — wet season continues, but crowds vanish and the island is at its greenest. Ideal for couples, photographers and long-stayers.
What is Galungan and will it affect my trip?
A ten-day islandwide festival on a rotating 210-day calendar — expect decorated lanes, processions and some closed local businesses. It adds to a trip far more than it takes.
Can you sunbathe in Bali in February?
Most days offer solid sunny windows, usually in the morning and early afternoon. Build flexible days and you'll tan fine — with a pool nearby for the downpour hour.
