Bingin Beach, Bali

Cliff stairs, a perfect left, warungs on the rocks — the Bukit's most romantic beach, explained.

Beach Guide · Updated July 2026 · by Casa Living Bali

Bingin is the Bukit distilled: a limestone cliff, a few hundred uneven stairs, a whitewashed maze of stays clinging to the rock, and below it all a short, perfect left that surfers cross oceans for. It rewards everyone who earns the descent.

Getting down (and back up)

Bingin's beach is stair-access only — a winding descent through cliff-side homestays and warungs. It keeps crowds honest and luggage impossible: pack light for beach days. At the bottom: golden sand pockets between rocks at low tide, a lagoon-flat reef shelf for wading, and one of Bali's best amphitheatres for watching surfers get barrelled a hundred metres out.

The wave

Bingin's left is short, hollow and mechanical — the same takeoff, the same section, the same kick-out, wave after wave. It's a barrel machine for experienced surfers at mid tide on a solid swell; it is not a learner's wave (that's Baby Padang up the road). Spectating at sunset with grilled fish is a legitimate way to 'do' Bingin. Full Bukit surf guide →

Sunset and seafood

The evening ritual: fresh-catch barbecue at the sand-floor warungs as the sun drops behind the line-up — book nothing, just descend before golden hour and pick a grill. It's the Bukit's best cheap dinner and its best expensive view, simultaneously.

Staying at Bingin vs nearby

Frequently asked questions

How do you get to Bingin Beach?
Via a long cliff stairway from the parking area at the top — a 5–10 minute descent through homestays and warungs. Wear real footwear and pack light.
Can beginners surf Bingin?
No — it's a shallow, hollow reef left for experienced surfers. Beginners should surf Baby Padang at Padang Padang, minutes away.
Is Bingin Beach good for swimming?
At lower tides the reef shelf forms calm wading pools; it's not a swimming beach in the open-water sense. Melasti, 15 minutes away, is the Bukit's swimming beach.
