Uluwatu compresses Bali's greatest hits into one limestone peninsula: a cliff-edge temple, half a dozen postcard coves, waves surfers dream about and sunsets that stop conversation. Here's the shortlist.
Uluwatu Temple and the kecak dance
Pura Luhur Uluwatu balances on cliffs seventy metres above the ocean — come an hour before sunset, watch the kecak fire dance in the clifftop amphitheatre, and mind the monkeys (sunglasses are their favourite currency). It's ten minutes from Padang Padang and the single most memorable evening on the Bukit.
Beach-hop the west coast
Work down the coast: Thomas for space and swimming, Padang Padang for the famous cove, Suluban for the cave entrance beneath the surf bar cliffs, Bingin for sunset fish BBQs, Dreamland and Melasti for wide white sand. Slower days
Golf at New Kuta (15 minutes), spa afternoons, yoga shalas in the banjar lanes, cooking classes, and day trips: Nusa Dua's calm water (~30 min), Jimbaran's fish market (~25 min), or the GWK cultural park's 120-metre statue (~20 min). The airport is 45–60 minutes — Uluwatu handles arrival and departure days better than anywhere on the island.
