What May feels like
May is the month regulars book for themselves. The dry season is properly installed — sunny days as the default, humidity down, evenings that occasionally justify a light layer — and the June–August crowds haven't landed. Beaches, restaurants and roads all run at their most pleasant capacity.
What's on
No major national holidays most years; the Balinese ceremony calendar continues its rotation, and the villages around Seseh hold their usual temple anniversaries. Waisak (Buddha's birthday) is a quiet public holiday. It's a month of ordinary, excellent days.
Surf in May
Proper dry-season surf arrives: overhead days at the famous Bukit reefs, punchy consistent walls at Seseh and Munggu, offshore mornings nearly every day. Intermediate surfers get their best month — real waves, sane crowds.
The verdict
Come in May for dry-season certainty at shoulder prices with room to breathe. Skip it only if you're chasing the festival buzz of peak season.
